Spiotta Signs with Pfeiffer College: Ben Guiliano Connects with Genesee Once Again

This years Genesee women’s volleyball program was very successful due to the outstanding play of Lauren Spiotta of Batavia N.Y. Spiotta, a 5’11 middle hitter, was nationally ranked in three different categories. Lauren was 4th in Hitting Efficiency with a 52.25 percent, 9th in blocks with an average of 1.95 per game and 11th in kills with 4.399 per game. Spiotta also gathered many all tournament team trophies as well as being named 1st Team All-Region. Spiotta was not only successful on the volleyball court; she was a stellar student in the general studies program here at Genesee. Lauren compiled a 3.69 grade point average in the year and a half that it took her to receive her associate’s degree. All of Spiotta’s attributes would greatly help any volleyball program nationwide.

While looking for college’s Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, North Carolina became Spiotta’s top choice. Pfeiffer College is a NCAA Division II school that plays in the Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference. Pfeiffer College also came with a solid connection to Genesee. The head coach for the Lady Falcons Ben Guiliano was the former alumni and coach at Genesee Community College. Guiliano graduated from Genesee in 1976 and returned to coach in 1979 after graduating from SUNY Brockport. He compiled over 300 wins here at Genesee between both the men’s and women’s programs. In 1986, Guiliano broke 200 wins with the women’s program. After Genesee, Guiliano continued his success coaching and building programs at Rochester Institute of Technology, St. Andrews College, Creighton University, Greensboro College and now Pfeiffer College.

Coach Guiliano expressed interest in Spiotta mid season this fall after hearing from long time friend Coach Roger Majeski. Spiotta then signed with Pfeiffer in January and is now in attendance at Pfeiffer College where she will join the team for their non-traditional spring season. Coach Guiliano stated “I am very excited to have Lauren attending Pfeiffer in January. This way she will not be considered a new comer next fall in pre-season. I am expecting her make an immediate impact on the court for us as we are losing our starting middle. We have a young team of 3 freshman and 3 sophomores that Lauren will fit great with. Overall, I feel that Lauren will be a great asset for our team next fall.”
