As part of its 40th anniversary celebrations, Genesee Community College is planning two exciting events on Saturday, February 17. First, alumni student-athletes will be recognized during the between-game intermissions of the women’s and men’s basketball games against Erie Community College. Later, a live performance by Eric Bibb, an internationally renowned blues-folk musician, will take place in the Stuart Steiner Theatre.
“We are excited to host such a fun day for both our current students and faculty and for our alumni,” said Kristen Clark, Sports Information Coordinator. “Honoring our former student-athletes and then offering a world-class musician in the evening is a great way for us to celebrate Genesee turning 40.”
The College is inviting all alumni student-athletes to contact Clark if they would like to be honored during the basketball games. The Cougars are hosting the Erie Community College Kats at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm in the Zambito Gymnasium at the Batavia Campus. All alumni in attendance will be introduced by name, the sport they played, and the academic class they attended at Genesee Community College.
Former student-athletes may participate in this event by contacting Kristen Clark at (585) 343-0055 x6441 or by emailing her at email@example.com.
After the basketball games, alumni, along with friends and family, are invited to attend the Eric Bibb performance in the Stuart Steiner Theater at 8:00 pm. Bibb has released eleven solo records and his next album, entitled Diamond Days, is due out in January 2007. Twice nominated for the W.C. Handy Awards and winner of the “Best Newcomer” title in the British Blues Awards, Bibb has been appropriately described by Elwood Blues as “what the blues in the new century should be about.”
Adult tickets for the Eric Bibb concert are $6 each. Call (585) 345-6814 to reserve tickets; this show is sure to sell out.
