Genesee Community College Hosts Three Art Exhibits and Open Houses

Three separate locations from Genesee Community College’s network of six campus locations are delighted to host three different art exhibits during the upcoming holiday season, and two are also scheduled in tandem with Open Houses.

ARCADE - The photography of Dawn Lewandowski is on display at Genesee Community College at Arcade. A native of the Buffalo area, Ms. Lewandowski is making her debut in the area artistic and cultural scene. Though she grew up surrounded by cameras in her father’s camera repair shop, Lewandowski took little interest in the medium during her younger years. Recently, however, Dawn has made this art her own. She takes photos “the old fashioned way” – on film with no digital corrections. This show features color prints from 35 mm negative slides. The show, entitled Present Moments, captures a variety of subjects with quiet appreciation.

“It is a pleasure to view Ms. Lewandowski’s work,” Dr. Deborah DiNoto, Associate Dean of Instruction at Genesee Community College’s Arcade campus said. “There is a peaceful yet vibrant quality to her work. We are honored that she chose to share it with the public via the campus center.” An artist’s reception for Dawn Lewandowski will be held at the Arcade campus on November 29 from 6-8 pm as part of the campus center Open House. Staff will be on hand to answer questions about attending college, program offerings, and financial aid. The Arcade campus center is located at 25 Edward Street, Arcade, NY 14009.

ALBION - Students from Genesee Community College’s Orleans campus center will be displaying their work at the center’s annual Fall Art Exhibit. The exhibit features an eclectic assortment of paintings and two dimensional design work from students participating in Susan Lovejoy-Storment’s art classes. One unique aspect of this year’s exhibit is that the students are also making new game table tops for their student lounge. The Fall Art Exhibit opens with a reception on November 29 from 5-7 pm in tandem with the Open House on the same evening. The exhibit runs through December 12. The Orleans campus center is located at 456 West Ave, Albion, NY 14411.

BATAVIA - An exhibit titled The Secret Artists of Genesee Community College will showcase the unique talents of the College’s faculty and staff. Juried by the Art faculty, submissions include a wide range of subjects – from travel and families to gardens and pets. “We wanted to give our staff an opportunity to show Genesee Community College’s creative and unique culture,” Heath Bartel, Instructor of Fine Arts said. Submissions were accepted from all College employees save those who teach Art or Fine Arts courses. “The gallery wishes to expose the hidden talent of Genesee Community College,” Bartel said.

Selected artists will be featured in the Stuart Steiner Theatre Lobby Art Gallery, beginning with a reception on December 7 from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm. The show runs through January 26, 2007. Genesee Community College is located at One College Road, Batavia, NY 14020.
