Martin Griffith leads Wyoming Division
Monday, November 6, 2006
Under the leadership of Martin Griffith of Arcade, senior vice president of Five Star Bank, the annual campaign of the Genesee Community College Foundation’s Wyoming County Division is off to an exciting start. With the new campaign theme, “Genesee at 40,” organizers hope to recognize the College’s upcoming series of 40th anniversary events.
“The economic impact of the College in our region was recently estimated at over $501 million,” Griffith said. “This incredible impact is at the heart of the campaign. It reflects the desire to support our local economy by training our workforce in needed skills, and to promote excellence in the classroom through scholarship incentives to students who have the potential for high academic achievement.”
He added that through the Foundation, President Scholarships are awarded to excellent students and raise the level of classroom interaction and enhance the learning experience. It encourages these students to eventually settle in our region. For fall 2006, five of 17 President Scholarship recipients graduated from Wyoming County High Schools. In the past academic year 455 scholarships were awarded by the Foundation, totaling $243,629.
Mr. Griffith is an active committee member of the Wyoming County Chamber of Commerce, and he serves on the Arcade Community Revolving Loan Fund loan committee. He was also a former President of the Wyoming Foundation and member of the Steering Committee and board for the Wyoming County YMCA. He served on the board and was president of the Arcade Area Chamber of Commerce and was a past member of the Arcade Downtown Revitalization Committee.
