The Genesee Community College men's soccer team recently announced the signing of ten players to NJCAA National Letters of Intent for the 2006 season. Joining the Cougar program next fall will be Brian Beckler, Zach Ewert, Asad Farah, Edwin Jones, Jared Kosko, Tom Nash, Mike Penna, Alexi Romero, Eric Swede, and Alex Yaniro.
Penna, a defender from Holley High School, was selected as a Section V, Class B all-star in 2005. Ewert, a midfielder, was a part of the Attica High School team that won the 2005 Class BB championship. Kosko, a midfielder played for the 2004 Class AA Champions Spencerport High School.
Romero, a midfielder, was a part of the Webster Thomas team which was the Monroe County Division II co-champion in 2005 and was the Class AA sectional runner-up in both his junior and senior years. Nash and Beckler were also a part of teams that earned a share of the Monroe County regular season titles. Nash's Brockport team was the Division I co-champs and Beckler's Hilton team was the Division II co-champion. Nash was named his team's most improved defender. Beckler, a goalie, had 113 saves with a 1.38 goals against average.
Jones, a striker from East High School, and Farah, a defender from Lafayette High School, will add to the international flavor of the Cougar roster. Jones originally hails from Liberia and Farah is from Somalia. Rounding out the new additions to the program are midfielders Swede and Yaniro. Swede scored eight goals and had eight assists for Pavilion while Yaniro had six goals and four assists for Caledonia-Mumford.
