The Genesee Community College softball team rallied for two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning against Corning Community College on Thursday to take a 3-2 lead. But after two spectacular catches by left fielder Jill McAndrew, she came up just a little short on a diving attempt for the third out and Corning managed to tie the game in the top of the seventh. Corning then scored six runs in the top of the eighth for the 9-3 win. The second game of the double header was cancelled on account of darkness.
The team dropped two games to Mercyhurst NE who is ranked 13th in the NJCAA Division II poll. The Cougars managed only three hit in the first game, a 10-0 setback. In game two, Hannah Pielow broke up a no-hitter with an infield single in the Cougars 3-0 loss.
The team also dropped both games two Monroe Community College on Saturday. GCC lost the first game, 9-0, and the second game, 10-0. The Cougars are now 2-9 overall. They will host Finger Lakes on Tuesday and Alfred State on Thursday before traveling to Jamestown Community College who is currently ranked 8th in the country among Division III schools.
