The Genesee Community College baseball team split two double headers last week with Monroe Community College and Morrisville College. The Cougars beat the Tribunes 6-1 and then lost 2-0. Against Morrisville, Genesee won 9-1 and was beaten 3-1 in nine innings. The Cougars are now 12-3 overall and 3-1 in Region III play.
The team beat Monroe in the first game as Craig Gillett earned the win on the mound. He gave up one run on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks. In the nightcap, Justin Bye pitched seven strong innings in defeat. He yielded two runs on 10 hits with six strikeouts and no walks but the offense offered no support as it could only come up with three hits.
The team pounded Morrisville in the first game, 9-1. Andrew Vant'Wout earned the win. He allowed only two hits and two walks while fanning eight. In game two neither team could muster much offense as the Cougars suffered a 3-1 setback in nine innings. Aaron Strusienski gave up two runs in the top of the ninth on two walks, one hit and one error.
Offensively, Paul Osborne went 4-8 with a triple. Ryan Gugel had five hits with five runs scored and Tony Ray went 3-10 with a home run, three runs batted in and two runs scored.
