The Genesee Community College baseball team opened its regional play with a double header sweep of Broome Community College. The first game ended in five innings with the Cougars winning 11-0. In the finale , GCC won 6-0 as its pitching staff continues to dominate the competition.
Tony Ray (Batavia) belted a two run homer in the first game and Ryan Gugel had two hits for Genesee. Craig Gillett (London, Ontario) earned the win by pitching four innings. He struck out three, walked three and picked off two runners.
Justin Bye (Tillsonburg, Ontario) picked up his third win of the year in game two. He struck out six while only walking one. Quinn Fuller (Dorchester, Ontario) had two hits including a two-run double.
Genesee is now 10-1 overall. The team will face Division II power Monroe Community College on Thursday in its home opener.
