It has been a busy couple of weeks for the Genesee Community College women's soccer program as the team has already signed nine recruits for next fall. Joining the Lady Cougars in 2006 will be Desirea Border (Canaseraga), Katie Coons (Brockport), Calena Koenig (GR LEAH), Amanda Krol (Byron-Bergen), Liz Lucas (Brockport), Melissa Luissi (Hilton), Rebekah Miller (Alexander), Catherine Schmeider (Alexander) and Heather Scott (Canaseraga).
Scott and Border were both four year players for Canaseraga. Scott tied the school record for goals scored. She was a four time all-star and team Most Valuable Player. She won numerous Player of the Week awards during her career. Border set the school record for shutouts in a season and tied the record for career shutouts. She was a two-time all-star performer.
Coons and Lucas were both an integral part of the Brockport team that was the 2005 Section V Class AAA champions. Lucas received the team's Most Improved Player award.
Miller, Schmeider and Krol were also members of teams that won sectional crowns over the last few years. Miller and Schmeider played for Class CC champions, Alexander. Miller was selected as a Genesee Region all-star and team MVP during her career. Schmedier was a part of a defense that recorded 15 shut outs in 21 games. Krol was a member of the Byron-Bergen team that won a sectional title in 2002. She was a two-time Genesee County all-star.
Rounding out the new recruits are Luissi and Koenig. Luissi played for a Hilton squad that won its division the last two years. Koenig was named the most valuable forward for her GR LEAH Rapids team.
