Cougars Hoping to Lock Up #2 Seed

The Genesee Community College men's basketball team is looking to secure the #2 seed in the upcoming Region II tournament which would give the team a bye into the semi-finals of the regional tournament. Genesee won two out of three games this week against conference foes.

The Cougars swept the season series from Niagara, 73-62. Antonio Mullins led the way with 27 points and seven rebounds. Gari Fields added 17 tallies and five boards and Soloman Donaldson scored 15 for GCC.

The team trailed by 14 at half before losing in the final minute at Erie, 93-97. Points off turnovers hurt the Cougars as Erie scored 33 points off their miscues. Don Juan Tyson scored 36 points (5 of 7 from 3-point range). Fields posted another double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Gray added 17 points and five assists.

Four players scored in double figures as the team defeated Jamestown Communtiy College, 97-82. Tyson had a team high 28 points followed by Mullins with 25 tallies. Kevin Josey scored a season high 21 points and Field chipped in 17 for GCC.

Genesee is receiving Honorable Mention in the latest NJCAA Division II National Poll. The team is 17-7 overall and 8-3 in WNYAC/Region III play. Their final home game will be on Thursday, February 16th versus Alfred State at 8:00 pm.
