Genesee overcame a cold shooting performance to defeat Niagara College of Canada on Saturday. GCC also won its first match up against the school from Ontario. The team connected on only 34% of its shots in the first half as the visiting Knights took a one-point lead into the intermission. The Cougars made half their shots in the second stanza but their dominance on the glass was the key. Offensive rebounding was especially critical as the team pulled down 21 caroms while Niagara only managed nine for the game. Kevin Josey and Gari Fields (eight rebounds) each scored 21 points to lead GCC. Don Juan Tyson added 16 tallies for the Cougars.
The Cougars are now 15-4 overall. They moved up one spot to 12th in this week's NJCAA Division II poll.
