The Genesee Community College women's basketball team won three out of four games this week. Their only setback came at the hands of 7th ranked Division I Monroe Community College On Tuesday. Injuries and foul trouble decimated the Lady Cougars against the Lady Tribunes. Danielle Ayala led GCC with 12 points in the 92-47 loss.The team bounced back with a 69-29 pounding of JCC-Olean. Judishea Spence connected on 7 of 12 field goals and hit all three of her free throw attempts to lead the Lady Cougars with 17 points. She also had eight rebounds and four steals. Ayala (five assists) and Tracy Wangelin (eight rebounds) each added 14 points for GCC.The team traveled to Rhode Island for the CCRI Jamboree and came away with two more wins. On Saturday, free throw shooting was the difference for GCC in its win against Dundalk as the team connected on 18 of 27 attempts. Dundalk only managed seven points at the charity stripe but connected on 14 treys to keep it close. Dyani Johnson was a perfect 6 for 6 from the line and finished with 16 points. She also had seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Wangelin had 15 points and Ayala added 14 for Genesee.On Sunday, GCC's top ranked defense kicked into high gear in holding Mercer CCC to 17 first half points. Spence led GCC with 14 points, nine caroms and four assists. Monica Dean added 11 points for the Lady Cougars.The Lady Cougars are currently ranked 4th in the NJCAA Division II National poll. The team is ranked #1 among NJCAA Division II schools in team defense and 8th in field goal shooting.
