The GCC women's basketball team stayed perfect by defeating Wayne County CC on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Cougars built a 10-point halftime lead despite some foul trouble among their post players. Monica Dean came off the bench to score seven out of her season high nine points in the stanza. Wayne managed to cut it to four in the second half but the Lady Cougars pulled away by connecting on 14 out of 16 free throw attempts to prevail, 71-55. Point guard Stephanie Darden was the key as she scored 13 points (7 of 8 free throws), pulled down seven boards and dished out five assists. Danielle Ayala had 16 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals for GCC. Latoya Anderson (Rochester) connected on all seven of her attempts from the charity stripe and gathered in eight boards. The Lady Cougars are now 5-0 overall and play the first of three conference games on Thursday night at Alfred.
