Men's Basketball Team Falls to 8th Ranked Owens

The Cougar basketball traveled to St. Clair CCC for its annual Holiday tournament and squared off with Owens CC who was ranked 8th in the NJCAA Division II poll. Three point shooting kept the team close as they connected on 8 out of 17 attempts but Owens held on for an 86-76 victory. Antonio Mullins recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards. Don Juan Tyson had 17 points, seven boards, and four assists. Jamar Gray added 13 points, six assists and and four steals.

The Cougars won the consolation game with a 91-66 pounding of Lambton College of Canada. Genesee shot nearly 50% from the floor (34-70) while Lambton only managed to shot a meager 34% (23-67). Five players scored in double figures for GCC led by Mullins and Kevin Josey who scored 18 points each. Gari Fields had a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Tyson scored 12 and Jim Irwin had 10 points and five assists for the Cougars.

Genesee is now 6-2 overall and face 14th ranked Alfred State on Thursday. That game is the first of three conference games for GCC.
