Women's Volleyball Coach Achieves Milestone

Head Volleyball Coach Roger Majeski arrived at another milestone in his coaching career at Genesee Community College. His Lady Cougars won six matches this week to give Coach Majeski his 700th career win at GCC. It is the most wins of any coach in the history of Cougar athletics. His overall record is now 700-235 in his 19th season.

On Tuesday, the Lady Cougars clinched yet another WNYAC conference championship by defeating both Monroe Community College and Alfred State College in straight set at a tri-match held in Rochester. The team beat Monroe 30-19 and 30-25 and Alfred 30-19 and 30-24. Danielle Berryman 13 kills, 13 digs and six service aces to lead GCC to its eighth straight conference title. Alyssa Fitchette added16 kills and eight blocks and Jen Martins set for 37 assists and had 10 digs for the Lady Cougars.

The team then traveled to Rhode Island for a tournament on Saturday. They went a perfect 4-0 with victories over Holyoke CC (30-7, 30-13), CC Rhode Island (31-29, 30-25), Dean College (30-24, 30-16), and the College of Southern Maryland (28-30, 30-24, 15-12). Jamie Huglemaier recorded 14 aces, 16 digs, 18 kills and 17 assists for GCC. Berryman had 34 digs, 19 kills and 12 assists. Lauren Spiotta had 26 kills and 15 blocks and Martins added 77 assists and 33 digs. The Lady Cougars are now 42-7 overall. With a victory on Tuesday against Mercyhurst NE, the team will have clinched its 10th consecutive regional title and the right to represent Region III in the District Championships to be held here on November 5th and 6th.
