Lady Cougars Ranked 3rd in Preseason Poll

Expectations were already high heading into this season for the Lady Cougar basketball team with archrival Monroe moving up to the NJCAA Division I level. Under Coach Scott Hemer, now in his fifth season at Genesee, the Lady Cougars have been ranked as high as eighth in the NJCAA Division II poll. This year they're starting the season ranked third in the preseason poll released last week. The team will be playing another strong schedule as it will potentially play ten teams who received national recognition plus four NJCAA Division I schools.

Genesee will open its season by hosting a tip-off tournament on November 5th and 6th. GCC will face Fulton-Montgomery at 7:00 pm on Saturday. The other first round game pits the 19th ranked Community College of Rhode Island against Mott Community College who is receiving Honorable Mention. The consolation game is slated for 10:00 am on Sunday with the championship game at 2:00 pm.

The men's team garnered honorable mention in its preseason poll. They could have as many as six games against nationally ranked teams. The Cougars open with a tournament at Erie Community College on Friday, November 4th against Lackawanna who is ranked eighth. On Sunday, November 6th, the team will host the 13th ranked Community College of Rhode Island at 4:00 pm in the Anthony T. Zambito gymnasium.
