The Genesee Community College baseball team hosted Jamestown Community College in a first round match up of the Western New York Athletic Conference play-offs on Tuesday. GCC won 6-2 and advances to the final four of the WNYAC Baseball Championships for the first time in school history. The Cougars will face Erie Community College on Saturday, October 15th in Buffalo. The game was originally slated for the 8th of October but was postponed due to inclement weather.
Jeff Gmereck led the team by going 2-3 and driving in two runs for Genesee. Johnny DeWolfe and Brad Kozak both went 2-4 for the Cougars and Tony Ray belted a homerun. Justin Bye pitched seven strong innings to earn the win for GCC. He gave up five hits and struck out two while walking just one batter. Andrew Van'tWout pitched the final two innings to get the save. He fanned five out of the six batters he faced. Genesee is now 17-4 overall.
