The Genesee Community College baseball dropped its first two Western New York Athletic Conference games to Mornoe CC on Saturday. In game one, the Cougars were beaten 6-0. The Tribunes scored all six runs in the first two innings. Brad Kozak and Steve Torrey each had a hit for GCC. The Cougars were pounced upon late in game two, as MCC scored 13 runs in the last three innings and won 15-2. Kozak, Quinn Fuller and Johnny DeWolfe each singled for GCC.
The team bounced back to sweep Alfred State for the second time this fall on Sunday. GCC won 7-5 in the opener as Fuller pitched a complete game. Robbie Parker went 3 for 4 with two runs driven in. Kozak, Tony Ray and Steve Froese each added two hits for the Cougars. The team had to rally to pull out a 6-5 win in the nightcap. Jeff Gmereck blasted two doubles and a triple with two runs batted in and two runs scored. Marshall Hendrix earned his first win on the mound.
On Tuesday, GCC earned a split with Lakeland CC which is a Division II team from Ohio. The Cougars took game one 4-3 and lost the second, 8-1. Kozak and Justin Bye each had two hits with a double to lead GCC in game one. Andrew Graham got his first win of the year. In game two, Jeff James drove in the only run for the Cougars.
The Cougars are 13-3 overall and 10-2 in conference play. The team will be the #2 seed in the WNYAC play-offs next Tuesday and play host to Jamestown Community College at 3:00 pm.
