The Genesee Community College baseball team won six games this week including sweeps of Division II schools Mercyhurst NE and Alfred State. The Cougars compete at the Division III level and the successful week runs their record to a perfect 8-0 so far this fall.
On Tuesday, Genesee defeated Jamestown CC 6-1 aided by Steve Froese's three-run homer. Andrew Van'tWout earned his second win of the fall by throwing a four hit shutout threw 5 1/3 innings. Justin Bye pitched a complete game to earn the victory in game two as GCC won 3-1. Bye allowed only one run and gave up just four hits to win his second game of the year. Tony Ray went 2 for 2 with a double and a walk to lead the Cougars at the plate.
On Saturday, GCC traveled to Northeast, Pennsylvania to take on the Saints. Game one went nine innings before the team managed to pull out the win, 5-4. Steve Torrey went 4 for 5 and Ray added three hits and three RBI's to lead the Cougars. GCC won game two by the score of 2-0 as Johnny DeWolfe pitched four-hit ball over seven innings and Torrey had two hits.
On Sunday, Genesee got the bats going as it beat Alfred State 14-10 in the first game and 13-3 in the second game. Jamie Carmichael, Ray and Bye each had three hits for GCC in game one. In the nightcap, Brad Kozak drove in four runs on three hits while Jeff Gmerek added two hits and scored two runs. Bye pitched another complete game with seven strikeouts.
