The Genesee Community College women's volleyball went 5-0 at the Corning CC tournament held on Saturday. In pool play, the team defeated Alfred State (30-23, 30-15), Onondaga CC (30-22, 30-16), and Tompkins-Cortland CC (30-19, 30-20). The team advanced to the semi-finals where it dropped its first match to Monroe CC, before battling back to advance to the finals (26-30, 30-19, 30-24). In the finals, GCC beat Butler CCC (30-28, 30-25).
The young Lady Cougars were led by Jamie Hugelmaier, one of only three returning players, with 129 assists. Freshman Alyssa Fitchette contributed with 28 kills and 17 blocks and freshman Lauren Spiotta added 23 kills to go with her 17 blocks. Freshman Danielle Berryman also had 28 kills for Genesee. Next up for the Lady Cougars is the Broome Tournament on Saturday, September 3rd in Binghampton, NY.
