Ivanova and Tooms Recognized as Scholar-Athletes of the Year

Two basketball players were recognized as the Scholar-Athletes of the Year at the annual awards dinner on May 13, 2005. This award is given annually to a male and female student who has accomplished outstanding athletic and academic success. Polina Ivanova and Bart Tooms were this year's recipients.

Ivanova, a sophomore from Pernik, Bulgaria, was a guard for the Lady Cougar basketball team that finished the season ranked 13th in the nation. She carries a 3.9 GPA as a Computer Information Systems major. She will be continuing her academic and athletic career at Illinois Institute of Technology, a Divison I NAIA school in Chicago, Illinois.

Tooms, a sophomore from Amsterdam, Holland was a member of the Cougar basketball team. The 6'11 center averaged 10 points and 7 rebounds for GCC. He had a 3.3 GPA as a Criminal Justice major. He signed a Division I Letter of Intent to continue his career at UNC-Greensboro in the fall.
