Baseball Team Salvages Split With Herkimer

The Genesee Community College baseball team ended a long week by managing a split with Herkimer Community College in a doubleheader that was played at Dwyer Stadium. The Cougars lost the opener, 5-2, but came back to win the nightcap by the count of 6-3.

Early in the week, GCC dropped four games against Region III foes. On Tuesday, the team lost to Corning Community College 8-7 in a game that went into extra innings. Deflated, the team then lost game two, 5-2. On Thursday, the Cougars lost twice to Jamestown Community College. Jamestown was last year's Region III representative in the Division III World Series. The Cougars dropped a tough 4-2 decision in game one and then were blasted 11-0 in game two. Genesee is now 5-13 overall and 2-6 in Region III, Division III play.
