Lady Cougars on a Roll

The Lady Cougars have reeled off six consecutive wins in the last two weeks. Genesee shot a torrid 62% from the floor against Alfred State. Antionetta Young had a career high 37 points as she connected on 14 of 17 field goals and was a perfect seven for seven from the charity stripe. She also had 11 boards on the night. Danielle McCray chipped in with 13 rebounds and 12 points. It was her 15th double double of the year.

GCC hosted the first WNY Showcase over the weekend which featured four teams receiving national recognition. The Lady Cougars defeated Mercer CCC of New Jersey with tough man to man defense. They held the Lady Vikings to 39 points which is 26 below their season average. Young again led the way with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Shakeema Savage added 10 points and nine caroms. McCray pulled down a team high 13 boards.

Against the Lady Catamounts of Potomac State, GCC got its transition game going early and never trailed throughout the contest. Young continued her hot scoring streak with 33 points. She also had seven rebounds. Latoya Anderson contributed 19 points and 11 boards. McCray was a monster on the glass as she pulled down 17 rebounds to set a new single season record for GCC. McCray has also set a new standard for rebound in a career breaking the mark set last year by Fifi Camara. Stephanie Darden has also set a new standard for assists in a season.

Genesee faces Jamestown-Olean on Tuesday and then will travel to Cleveland to take on nationally ranked Lakeland CC on Sunday. The lady Cougars are 23-5 overall and 11-2 in conference play.
