The Lady Cougars won three league games last week to run its record to 10-2 in WNYAC/Region III play. Genesee used tough full court man to man defense and was able to get its running game going from the start as the team blasted Niagaea CCC 44-11 in the first half. Antionetta Young (10 rebounds) led a quartet of double figure scorers with 17 points. Stephanie Darden (five assists, four steals) added 15, Danielle McCray had 12 and Polina Ivanova scored 10 points.
Defense was again the key against Mercyhurst NE as the Lady Cougars allowed only 40 points to a MNE team that averages 66 points per game. Young poured in 22 points. Lizzie Roth tallied 14 and Darden added 10. McCray led the team with 12 boards and Latoya Anderson pulled down 10.
The Lady Cougars overcame a poor shooting performance by garnering 35 offensive rebounds to beat JCC-Olean. GCC managed to hit only 28 of 84 shots from the floor (33%) including a dismal 3 for 14 from long distance (21%). Young recorded a double double with 12 points and 13 rebounds. McCray and Roth each scored 13 points for GCC. Shakeema Savage added 10 points and Ivanova pulled down 11 boards.
