Genesee won two out of three league contests last week. The Cougars defeated Niagara CCC for the second time this season on Tuesday night as Phil Santiago tallied 26 points and eight boards. A. J. White added 14 points and seven boards and Jim Irwin chipped in with 13 points.
GCC lost at Mercyhurst NE on Thursday, February 10th. The Cougars defense kept the team in it as it held MNE to 59 points, 24 points below its season average of 83 points per game. But the offense couldn't keep up as it mustered only 17 points in the second half. Irwin had 14 points and Santiago added 11 points. Ian Brown pulled down a team high six rebounds.
Hot shooting was the key against Jamestown-Olean on Saturday. The Cougars connected on 55% of their shots including 65% in the second half when they broke open a four point half time lead. Irwin knocked down 11 of 16 field goals including five of eight from behind the arc for a career high 32 points. White recorded a double double with 15 points and 10 boards. Brown posted his first double double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. The Cougars are now 9-18 overall and 3-8 in conference play.
