Women's Basketball Splits Two Conference Games

The Genesee Community College Women's Basketball suffered its first loss of the second semester at the hands of Monroe CC, 82-53. Monroe came into the game ranked #2 in the NJCAA Division II national poll. Monroe was on fire from 3-point range in the first half as it connected on nine of its first thirteen shots from beyond the arc to build a 25 point half time lead. The second half was much tighter as the Lady Cougars were only outscored by four points. Antionetta Young led GCC with 22 points and eight rebounds. Latoya Anderson added 11 points and four steals.

Genesee bounced back in resounding fashion to beat Jamestown 70-47. JCC came into the game with only two losses on the season. The Lady Cougars jumped out to a 16-3 lead in the first six minutes of the game and the Lady Jayhawks could only get as close as eight points the rest of the way. The Lady Cougars connected on 50% of their shots in the first half and 47 % for the game. Balance was the key as Young led the team with 19 points and eight rebounds. Danielle McCray pulled down 13 boards to go with her eight points. Stephanie Darden contributed with 15 points, six steals and five assists and Lizzie Roth added 16 points.

Genesee is currently ranked 11th in the NJCAA Division II national poll. The Lady Cougars are 15-4 overall and 5-1 in WNYAC/Region III play.
