Women's Basketball Splits Two in New England

The Genesee Community College Women's Basketball team headed out on the road for another trip, this time to New England to face Dean College of Franklin, Massachusetts and the Community College of Rhode Island which is located in Warwick. The team easily defeated Dean, 64-36. Antionetta Young scored 19 points and pulled down nine boards to lead the Lady Cougars on Saturday. Danielle McCray added 18 points and 10 rebounds and Stephanie Darden recorded a double-double of her own with 11 points and 10 assists in front of her hometown fans.

Sunday's rematch with CCRI did not go as well. CCRI defeated GCC by six points in the Tip-off tournament held here in November. Young had 22 points, eight caroms, and four assists but it wasn't enough as the Lady Knights won 59-53. McCray chipped in with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

Earlier in the week, the Lady Cougars defeated Erie Community College handily, 77-26. McCray had a huge night with 25 points, 21 rebounds and five blocked shots. McCray now has recorded eight double-doubles in eleven games on the season. Darden missed a near triple-double as she scored 21 points, had 12 steals and dished out seven assists. Her 12 steals tied a school record. The Lady Cougars are currently 8-3 on the season and are ranked 15th in the NJCAA Division II poll.
