Lady Cougars Lose in Championship Game

The Genesee Community College Women's Basketball team lost to 10th ranked CC Rhode Island 64-58 in the championship game of its Tip-Off Tournament over the weekend. The Lady Cougars couldn't control the boards as they gave up 24 offensive rebounds in the game. GCC was led by all-tournament selection Stephanie Darden with 20 points, 3 steals and 3 assists. Danielle McCray was also selected to the all-tournament team. She chipped in with 14 points and 17 rebounds.

In the first round, the team defeated Fulton-Montgomery CC 72-56. A balanced scoring attack was the key as five players scored in double figures. Darden (8 assists and 4 steals) and McCray (10 boards) each had 15 points. Lizzie Roth added 14 points, Shakeema Savage had 13 and Antionetta Young chipped in with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. The Lady Cougars are 1-1 overall and are headed to a Division I tournament at Cincinnati State this weekend. They will face Olive Harvey College of Chicago in the first round.
