The Cougars opened the 2004-05 season with a 3rd place finish in their Tip-Off Tournament. In the first game, Genesee lost to the Community College of Rhode Island 90-74. Sophomore Phil Santiago had 31 points while shooting 11 of 17 from the floor. Backcourt mate Don Juan Tyson added 21 points (7 for 12) and 10 assists for GCC.
In the consolation game versus the defending Division II National Champion Cuyahoga Challengers, the Cougars bounced back for an 85-72 triumph. All-tournament selections Tyson (22 points) and Santiago (18 points) again led the team in scoring. Freshman Reggie Holmes aided the cause with 18 points (7 for 11 FG's) and 7 rebounds and Bart Tooms chipped in with 11 points and 5 boards. Gloucester Community College of New Jersey took home the tournament title. The Cougars are 1-1 overall.
