Genesee Community College Men's and Women's Basketball teams received Top 20 recognition in the NJCAA Division II polls released last week. The women are ranked thirteenth and the men are ranked twentieth.
The Lady Cougars concluded last season ranked eighth in the country among Division II schools with an overall record of 26-3. All three losses came to conference foe Monroe Community College, the eventual national champion.
The Cougars finished last season with a 23-8 overall record and were receiving honorable mention in the national poll. League rival Erie Community College is ranked 7th in the preseason poll while Monroe Community College and Mercyhurst Northeast are both being given honorable mention.
Both teams kick off their seasons on Saturday, November 6th and Sunday, November 7th in the GCC Tip-off Tournament. There will be four games each day with the action starting at 1:00 pm on Saturday and 11:00 am on Sunday. The Lady Cougars will face Fulton-Montgomery Community College at 5:00 pm on Saturday. The Cougars will tip off against the Community College of Rhode Island at 7:00 pm.
The other women's game features 10th ranked Community College of Rhode Island against Mott Community College who returns first team All-American Delores Hughley. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.The 3:00 pm men's game pits last year's Division II National Champion Cuyahoga Community College versus Gloucester County College who enters this season ranked 3rd among Division III schools.
The women's consolation game is at 11:00 am on Sunday with the championship game set for 3:00 pm. The men's consolation game will be at 1:00 pm and the championship game will tip off at 5:00 pm.
