Lady Cougars Reach Quarter-finals of Kaminna Allen Classic

Genesee Community College women's volleyball team went 4-1 in pool play to reach the quarter finals of the Kaminna Allen Memorial Classic before bowing to Mott CC of Michigan.

Against 3rd ranked St. Clair CCC, Genesee lost 15-30 and 19-30. The Lady Cougars then won four straight matches against Oakland CC (32-30, 30-21), Jamestown CC (30-22, 30-25), CC Rhode Island (30-15, 30-19) and Hagerstown CC (30-28, 24-30, 15-10). The team won the first game against Mott 30-26 before falling 19-30 and 11-15 in the tie breaker. St. Clair defeated Vincennes University in the finals to win the tournament. Tracy Obonna and Alicia Capparelli were selected for the all-tournament team.

Earlier in the week, GCC defeated Jamestown CC and Monroe CC in WNYAC matches. The Lady Cougars beat JCC 30-27, 30-18, 28-30, and 30-16. Obonna had 15 kills, Carol Brewer had 10 blocks and seven kills and Alicia Capparelli had 42 assists.

The Lady Cougars defeated the Lady Tribunes of MCC in straight sets (30-23, 30-28, 30-22). Obonna had 14 kills, Brewer had 10 blocks and Capparelli served four aces and had 25 assists. Genesee is 19-9 overall and 5-0 in the WNYAC.
