Genesee Community College is pleased to announce that Maureen H. Goodsell is the recipient of the Employee of the Month award for January. Maureen has worked as a Data Entry Clerk in the Admissions Office at Genesee since 1999 and handles application processing for the office of Admissions. Additionally, she supervises work-study students, maintains web-based applications, and keeps abreast of new computer software.
"The applications we receive have increased 100-fold since I started," Maureen noted. "While younger students are more apt to submit their applications on-line, quite a few students still apply in-person, at the College."
The application procedures can be frustrating for some students, and therefore Maureen hopes that she will be able to further streamline the process. "I'm from the area so I know a lot of the students. I see kids that are transferring from other schools, and they're so frazzled. I think it helps to ease their frustration when I stop them in the halls and ask how they're doing, if everything is OK." Maureen can relate to the students on a multitude of different levels since she too is a student and is currently working on her Associates degree in Business Administration from Genesee. "Some of the students that I work with are in my classes," she admits, "so I'm able to stay in touch with them."
Maureen, a resident of Batavia, resides with her husband Robert and their son Dylan, a freshman at Batavia High School. An older son, Zack, is currently a freshman at Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania. Outside her work responsibilities and studies, Maureen enjoys reading and doing cross-stitch embroidery in her spare time.
