Under the volunteer leadership of Magdi and Marie Credi, Encore 2005 was a stellar success. With nearly 250 people dressed in their finest evening gowns or tuxedos, the December 13th event brought together some of the region's most dedicated supporters of Genesee Community College Foundation and the student scholarship programs.
The evening began with a gourmet reception in the William W. Stuart Forum. At approximately 8:00 PM, the holiday pops concert commenced with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and conductor Gerard Floriano. The Encore Program included the traditional visit of Santa Claus, who broke out in operatic song-sounding very much like Harold McAuliffe, the chorale director for the R.P.O. The Great Gatsby was the theme of this year's Encore and against the backdrop of the movie playing silently on a large screen, a group of Genesee Community College acting students dressed the part as flappers and jazzman and roamed the Encore crowd in high fashion. In addition, the Batavia Chamber Choir and The Buffalo Gateway Show Chorus also performed.
Proceeds from the event benefit Genesee Community College Foundation's scholarship programs, which last year funded about 500 scholarship awards to area students.
"This event captures the spirit of Genesee Community College while giving the community a chance to gather in their finest attire for a terrific cause," said Rick Ensman, the director of External Affairs and Development at Genesee. "I know people who look forward to this event all year long."
