Genesee Community College Launches Television Campaign

Building on the momentum from many recent successes such as, continued enrollment growth, ongoing technology enhancements, the start of construction for a new 10,500 square foot Student Union, and numerous academic distinctions from students and faculty-Genesee Community College launched its first television advertising campaign of the new millennium. Two 30-second advertisements are currently airing on a wide array of cable television stations throughout western New York State.

The two separate advertisements feature the College's most notable characteristics. Technology in the classrooms, labs, library, and even wireless capabilities of the common areas distinguishes Genesee from many colleges and universities including numerous four-year institutions. And, convenience allows students to take numerous classes online, or in any one of the six campus centers located in four counties. Batavia in Genesee County, Lakeville and Dansville in Livingston County, Albion in Orleans County, and Arcade and Warsaw in Wyoming County. Students and faculty from throughout the GLOW region and beyond participated in the television commercial production project.

"When people are asked about their impression of Genesee, they invariably mention our high-tech campuses, and also the incredible convenience they discover with the six campus locations and online learning opportunities." Donna Rae Sutherland, associate director of Marketing Communications said. "We tried to reflect these impressions in our new ad campaign."

This past academic year has been shaped by some significant benchmarks:

•Community College Week named Genesee Community College the 8th fastest growing mid-size community college in the nation.•Genesee welcomed over 6,000 students for the first time ever last fall.•Growing student enrollment has created an increased need for student housing with College Village, the student housing complex located adjacent to the Batavia Campus, already reporting a waiting list for available rooms. •The Economic Impact of the College to Genesee County was estimated at over $78 million.•Kristina Marchese '05 was named New York State New Century Scholar, an honor granted to only one community college student in the state. •The 37th Annual Commencement ceremony not only welcomed Soccer Olympian Abby Wambach as the speaker, but also celebrated as more than 700 graduates received diplomas or certificates.

These significant accomplishments and the continued enrollment increase inspired the College to let the wider community know and appreciate what a treasure-trove of opportunity awaits them at Genesee.
