Meg Pearson Appointed Orleans Division Chair of the Genesee Community College Foundation Campaign

Margaret (Meg) A. Pearson, Assistant Vice President, Bank of America, Albion Branch was appointed chair of the Orleans Division of the Genesee Community College Foundation's annual campaign. The appointment was recently announced by General Campaign Chair, Russell Romano of Batavia.

Ms. Pearson stated that she is proud to lead the regional division of the campaign "mainly because an investment in higher education results in the increased well-being of the county. In the fall 2004 semester 825 residents of Orleans County attended credit-bearing courses at Genesee. Our region is attractive to potential corporations and employers because of our educated and trained workforce. Supporting students who have the ability and desire to obtain a higher education with even a small amount of financial help is a responsibility of the highest order."

"Concerned citizens established the Orleans County Scholarship Fund several years ago specifically to support students from Orleans," Ms. Pearson said. "Since then it is an integral part of the campaign. Gifts may continue to be directed to this fund." She continued that supporting the campaign presents an opportunity for the community to promote a higher education for its residents and to provide financial assistance to students. The aid may be used to defray the cost of tuition, fees, books and other educational expenses while attending the College.

The Genesee Community College Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing service and support to Genesee Community College. A thirty-member board of directors comprised of local business and civic leaders leads the board. The Foundation, formed in the mid-eighties to provide philanthropic support to the College, provided 506 scholarships to Genesee students last year totaling $197,732. The overall goal of the campaign this year is $274,500.
