Genesee Community College's Annual Spring Job Fair ontinues to Grow and Feature Numerous Career Development Opportunities

With more participating businesses than last year, Genesee Community College is pleased to announce another exciting Job Fair on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the College's centrally located William Stuart Forum. Genesee's Career and Transfer Center continues to solicit businesses from all types of industries to join the popular, three-hour event that introduces potential new employees to employers, and also provides businesses an opportunity to exhibit their trade and services to the local community. In addition to the Job Fair, Genesee Community College's Career and Transfer Center also sponsors several preparatory job search workshops. The workshops are FREE and open to the general public. To attend, all interested students and community members MUST register in advance by calling 585-345-6888.

•The two-part Job Search Success workshop, presented by Jerry Kozlowski, Dean of The Best Center, discusses the job search from the employer's point of view. The first workshop will discuss creating and writing a successful resume and cover letter which a prospective employer is sure to read. The second session covers understanding the job interview from the employer's perspective and what steps to take to create a positive first impression that ensures a successful job interview.

•The "Blue Jeans to Blue Suits: Dress for Success" workshop is sponsored by Genesee Community College's Student Activities Office and will be presented by Professor Richard Dudkowski of the Business / Marketing Department. As the coordinator of the hugely successful annual Fashion Show, Professor Dudkowski is well equipped to lead a discussion on how to create a positive first impression, and professional dressing strategies and techniques that lead to successful careers.

•Credential File and Interviewing Skills Workshop- will cover different areas of the interviewing process such as the different types of interviews, what questions to expect, how to prepare for an interview, what questions you should ask a potential employer and tips on creating a useful references file. Another upcoming event is the Transfer Fair on Monday, April 4, 2005 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM in the Forum of the Batavia Campus. Representatives from over 40 four-year colleges from across New York State and Pennsylvania will be available to answer transfer related questions and distribute material about their institutions. Anyone interested in earning a bachelor's or higher degree will learn how Genesee Community College course credit can be seamlessly transferred through numerous dual enrollment agreements and careful planning processes with dozens of different universities and colleges.

"This year, we are delighted that a number of new businesses are participating in the Job Fair, as well as some new colleges at our Transfer Fair," Susan Marschke, Career Center Counselor said. "This series of events is really a win-win scenario for everyone. Genesee's students and GLOW-area residents have the opportunity to meet and greet some of our region's leading employers, while the employers gather resumes for their potential new workforce and show off their business prowess."
