The Genesee Center for the Arts will hold its first-ever "Performing Arts Day" on Thursday, January 27 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Local high school students, drama directors, and guidance counselors are all invited to attend.
This free event is "important for students to attend," according to Maryanne Arena, Director of Fine and Performing Arts at Genesee Community College, "because many of them are at a pivotal point in their high school careers, deciding on which college to attend. They may not be aware of the number of ways that participation in the theatre can enhance a college career and their resume."
Students will be able to observe instructors from the performing arts department and will witness first-hand the disciplines of theatre arts including acting, directing, stage craft, and musical theatre. "This is a wonderful way for students to explore the many course and curriculum options available to them at Genesee," Arena added. Instructors and students will be available throughout the day to answer questions, give tours, and demonstrate techniques. A question-and-answer period with faculty and students is scheduled to address the unique experience of becoming a Theatre Arts major at Genesee Community College.
Reservations for "Performing Arts Day" can be made by calling the Genesee Center for the Arts Box Office at 585-345-6814. A snow day has been scheduled for Thursday, February 3.
