In one of the highlights of 2004, Genesee Community College was named the College of the Month by the National Junior College Athletic Association, and was featured on the cover of the JUCO Review, the organization's nationwide monthly magazine. Star athletes from each of ten different intercollegiate Genesee Community College teams were pictured in their team attire on the front cover of the October edition, Volume 56, Number 2-standing before the large GCC Cougar mascot in the College's gymnasium.

A scanned copy of the magazine's front cover is located at following Internet location: cover.jpg. The student-athletes standing left to right are: Jim Anderson, Hamburg, NY; Tracy Obonna, Brampton, Ontario; Jay Thomas, Brockport, NY; Jennifer Ritter, Pembroke, NY; Avery Oliver, Fall River, MA; Danielle McCray, Lyons, NY; Brandi Ferris, Letchworth, NY; Dale Pearce, Albion, NY; Aaron Reinbold, Arcade, NY; and, Amber Holts, Arcade, NY.

In addition to the full-color, front cover photo, the inside two-page center spread of JUCO Review magazine was also completely dedicated to Genesee Community College. The story discussed the "Tradition of Academic and Athletic Excellence" with the Cougar Athletic team's participation philosophy, a review of fast facts, and points of interest about the College. Pages 12 and 13 also included seven more photographs of Genesee's athletes both in action and posed in front the Batavia campus clock tower.

"We are delighted to have the opportunity to showcase our program to a national audience," Dr. Len Nardone, Director of Genesee's Athletic Department said. "For three decades, Genesee has competed in regional, district and national tournaments and we have earned many prestigious honors. And, on parallel track our student-athletes have learned not only rules of the game, but the importance of good sportsmanship on the field, in court, and in a classroom."
