The Office of the President of Genesee Community College is pleased to announce this month's employee and student of significant recognition. Jean W. Cianfrini, a dedicated member of Genesee's staff for over 30 years has been selected as the September Employee of the Month, while Rebecca S. Narburgh has been chosen as the Student of the Month for September. Jean W. Cianfrini - Employee of the MonthSince May of 1971, Jean Cianfrini has been diligently supporting the College's growth and development as an office assistant and secretary. Currently, her efforts are evident in the Distance Learning department where she serves as a secretary. While distance learning is a relatively new program at the College, its continuous growth to over 90 courses in the 2004-2005 academic year have increased Jean's workload. Despite the program's expansion, she maintains the same attention to detail and dedication in supporting students, faculty, and fellow staff members.
Jean is not only a long-term employee, but she is also a Genesee alumnus receiving her degree in Secretarial Science in 1971. She began her tenure at the College while it was located on West Main Street and she was instrumental in helping the institution relocate to its new home on College Road in 1972. Beyond scrap booking and crocheting, traveling is one of Jean's personal passions and she also enjoys playing a few slot machines when one crosses her path. These interests, however, have been temporarily set aside with the arrival of her first grandson. The Cianfrini family resides in Batavia including Jean's husband John, their daughter Kristen, and their adorable young grandson, Michael.
Rebecca Narburgh - Student of the MonthAs a sophomore in Genesee's General Studies program, Rebecca Narburgh has distinguished herself in a number of areas both on and off campus. She is a recipient of the President's Scholarship and a key member of Genesee Community College's STAR program. During this semester, she is continuing her fine work in the College's Enrollment Management and Admissions offices. She is among a group of dedicated students who are specifically trained to telephone and reach out to other students for a variety of reasons. She answers the students' many questions, and often informs them about the many different opportunities, from scholarships to financial aid and work study jobs, to student clubs and special events. Becky's professionalism and her positive attitude play an important role in building a personal relationship with new students, for which Genesee is noted. Becky worked this summer in the Admissions office offering tremendous assistance through the vacation schedule and helping to get the 2004-2005 academic year off to a great start. Outside of her academic and STAR responsibilities, Becky enjoys poetry reading and day trips to Lake Ontario. She also has a new kitten named "Goatee." She lives in Albion with her parents, Gary and Cathy Narburgh. Her older brother Kenny attends SUNY Fredonia. Becky plans to attend SUNY Brockport College and hopes to obtain a PhD in Psychology and open up her own practice.
