Genesee Community College is pleased to announce that Florian R. Czaja, the Director of Buildings and Grounds at College Village is the College's August Employee of the Month. Since 1996, Florian has been involved in maintaining this property even when it was privately owned. In 2002, when Genesee Community College Foundation acquired the property, Florian was wisely brought on board to continue his distinguished services.
Florian's extraordinary attention to detail allows him to manage hundreds of tasks each month with painstaking care. His work?whether it is lawn care, electrical or plumbing, or helping students when they have locked themselves out of their apartment?consistently illustrates a sense of pride, care and high quality. Florian makes himself available for emergencies at all hours of the day or night, maintains meticulous records, and is a frequent contributor of excellent suggestions for continued improvements at College Village.
"College Village is growing not only in the number of residents, but also in the services we provide to students and to the community. This growth would not be possible without the hard work and commitment of our staff," John Sisson, Director of College Village said. "Florian leads the charge when it comes to dedication and innovation with a smile and positive attitude."
With a life-long career in Mechanical and Electrical engineering, Florian also worked at Kodak in Rochester for over 31 years. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from RIT.
Recently, Florian and his wife, Joan, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Born and raised in Batavia, they also raised their three daughters in the community. During his off-duty hours, Florian is involved with his parish, Sacred Heart Church and he also enjoys spending time with their 8 grandchildren.
