Batavia Wal-Mart Manager Mark McPherson, along with Women's Department Manager Rhea Leight, this week presented a $1,000 check to Genesee Community College Fashion Merchandising students in support of the college's 22nd annual student fashion show. Wal-Mart is a corporate sponsor of this year's show, "City Chic," which will be held Saturday, April 26, at 7:00 p.m. in the Batavia Campus' William W. Stuart Forum. Wal-Mart will be joined by about a dozen other corporate sponsors from Western New York in supplying clothing and other materials in support of the show.
Genesee's annual Fashion Show is one of the largest fashion shows in Western New York, as more than 600 guests are expected to attend. Advance tickets for the fashion show will be $5, or $7 at the door. Early reservations may be made by calling 345-6820.
"This is a very elaborate, professionally staged show," says M. Richard Dudkowski, Professor of Fashion Merchandising Management. "Students have to handle everything from budgetary arrangements to staging. It's wonderful practice for these students, who will soon be filling responsible positions in many different retail and sales organizations throughout New York State and beyond."
Twenty-one fashion students are involved in producing, choreographing, and promoting this year's show. They include area residents as well as students from other parts of the state and abroad, according to Professor Dudkowski.
