Genesee Biology Students to Learn About Human Organ Transplants

Representatives from Upstate NY Transplant Services (UNYTS) of Buffalo, NY, will be visiting Human Biology classes at Genesee Community College on Monday February 10 at 8:30 a.m., and on Tuesday February 11 at 9:30 a.m. The UNYTS staffers will share their stories and inform the students about organ donationd ransplants. Classes will meet in room D302 oGenesee's Batavia Campus. News reporters from regional media outlets are welcome to attend.

Students in Genesee's Human Biology class are typically in pursuit of degrees in preparation for careers in a health care field.

Upstate New York Transplant Services, Inc. is a non-profit organization authorized by the federal government to accept anatomical gifts for transplantation and/or medical research. UNYTS coordinates the donation process in the eight counties of Western New York by: talking with families to inform them of their donation options; coordinating the organ and tissue recovery process with hospitals and funeral homes; allocating organs and tissues for transplant; and providing follow-up information to donor families.
