Genesee Community College at Arcade is offering classes in bronze sculpture and casting in January. Classes are open to the public and will be held at Genesee's Arcade Campus Center, and at the AHF Griffis Sculpture Park. Reservations are required. Call the Campus Center at 585-492-5265 for reservations or for more information.
"Introduction to Bronze Casting" will be held on four consecutive Wednesday evenings from January 8 to January 29. The January 25 class will be held on-site at the AHF Griffis Sculpture Park; all other classes will be held at Genesee's Arcade Campus Center. The fee of $150 includes all supplies. In just four sessions, students will actively participate in all steps of the process while creating their own individual bronze sculptures of one to five pounds, including design, mold development, and participating in the actual bronze pour.
"Bronze Casting Weekend" is a two-weekend class (all day Saturday and Sunday) to be held on-site at the AHF Griffis Sculpture Park on January 11 - 12, and January 25 - 26. The $250.00 fee includes all lodging and supplies. Each student will actively participate in all steps of the process to create their own individual bronze sculptures or relief, including design, mold development, and participating in the actual bronze pour. Students will be required to stay overnight in the park cabins on the first weekend to design their mold. The bronze pour is set for the second Saturday; the final Sunday class will enable students to complete grinding, sanding, and finishing of their individual one to five pound bronze sculpture.
