Looking to take in some sights beyond the fall leaves? Check out the three powerful new exhibits at the Roz Steiner Art Gallery!
GCC is proud to display the Alumni Art Exhibit: “Coming Home” in the gallery foyer from October 2 to October 27, 2017. This exhibit features works in various media from several local GCC Alumni. Enjoy stunning photographs from Michael Mulley and Tim Dusen, blown glass by Dawn Hare, and sculptural work by Gregory Hallock. Meet these artists at the reception on October 12, 2017 at 1:00pm and 5:00pm. The exhibit will also include paintings done by the late, Denniston Woods, who taught drawing and painting at GCC for many years.
On display from October 5 to November 2, 2017, “Fugue State”, drawings by Tricia Butski. In these large-scale charcoal drawings, Butski examines the concept of memory through the limited and unstable lens of portraiture. Her pieces are simultaneously peaceful and distressing, alluring and grotesque. Lecture will be held on October 12, 2017 at 12:30pm and receptions will follow at 1:00pm and 5:00pm.
Just in time for the frozen water to descend upon us (yes, we mean snow), Jennifer Hecker’s, “Waterworks Water Tables & Other Aquatic Accoutrements,” will be showcased from November 16 to December 15, 2017. Using glass to represent water, Hecker’s sculpture work combines welded steel, iron and more to explore the potential worldwide water crisis in the twenty-first century. Lecture will be held on November 30, 2017 at 12:30pm and receptions will follow at 1:00pm and 5:00pm.
From January 16 to February 16, 2018, “The Timeless Nude,” by Michael Price, will grace the gallery space focusing on the perception that our corporeality is an extension of a transcendent reality. Price’s development and redefinition of nude translates the social concept of nudity to a truly dignified and refined expression of that reality. Lecture will be held on January 25, 2018 at 12:30pm and receptions will follow at 1:00pm and 5:00pm.
The Roz Steiner Art Gallery is open to the public Monday – Friday from 10am to 2pm and during special events as published at www.genesee.edu/campuslife/arts. Admission is free.
