Batavia, NY- Don’t let the hassle of applying for college financial aid slow you down! If you’re interested in applying, but don’t know where to begin, GCC will offer two free events to help guide you through the process. Join us at GCC Warsaw on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 4 – 8 p.m. and again at GCC Dansville on Wednesday, February 15, 2017 from 4 – 8 p.m. for 2017 College Goal NY Financial Aid Night. You’ll receive expert help filling out the online FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) forms. In addition, five participants will receive a $500 scholarship.
In order to receive all of the federal aid to which a student is entitled, the student must complete the FAFSA form. Financial aid counselors from GCC will be on hand to help high school seniors and adults complete the forms online. Participants are asked to bring essential information, including social security numbers, birth dates, driver’s licenses and 2015 income tax returns. College Goal NY offers a checklist of what to bring here: http://collegegoalny.org/get-started/how-to-prepare.
“Recent changes to an already intimidating process may turn students and their families off a bit, but we are here to help guide them through this important step of the college experience,” Amy Churchfield, associate dean of the Dansville Campus Center. “There are plenty of additional state and federal resources, and GCC has many scholarship opportunities available to all students.”
Those interested can pre-register online at www.collegegoalny.org. While GCC is hosting the event, students pursuing their education at other colleges are welcome to attend. The GCC Warsaw Campus Center is located adjacent to the Wyoming County YMCA at 115 Linwood Avenue in Warsaw and the GCC Dansville Campus Center is located at 31 Clara Barton St. in Dansville. For more information, call the friendly staff at the Warsaw Campus Center (585) 786-3010 or at the Dansville Campus Center (585) 335-7820.
