What: “Photo Show:” GCC Photography Exhibition
When: Opening Reception: Friday, May 20, 2016 ~ 6 – 8 p.m. ~ Exhibit: May 14, 2016 – September 11, 2016
Where: Genesee County Park & Forest Interpretive Nature Center ~ 11095 Bethany Center Road, E. Bethany, NY 14054
Who: All ages
Background: The art of photography relies on the individual to go to a location and use elements and principles to capture on analog, black and white film or a digital file, a composition of original art. Compared to how a painter or sculptor works, this is a very different process. A painter can work in a studio for long periods of time to forge their idea from pure thought. The photographer has to create their art by being at the location and have the subject in front of the lens. Cellphone cameras have made it quite easy for folks to snap a picture and post it to one of many social media platforms, but are they really thinking about the longevity and meaning with that effort?
From May 14, 2016 – September 11, 2016, the Genesee County Park & Forest Interpretive Nature Center in East Bethany will host the Genesee Community College Photography Exhibition, showcasing the photographical works of GCC students.
“Throughout the year and through hands-on assignments, students have learned how to create exciting images using manual aperture and shutter speed settings,” Joe Ziolkowski, GCC assistant professor of Photography said. “Now they have the opportunity to show off their creations.”
An opening ceremony is planned for Friday, May 20, 2016 from 6 – 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be served while patrons take in the views and just breathe.
