Ten student athletes from Genesee Community College were honored as 2011-2012 NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards winners.
The NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards were previously known as NJCAA Academic All-American honors. The NJCAA has renamed its academic awards program to the following:
NJCAA Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence (4.00 GPA on a 4.00 scale)
NJCAA Award for Superior Academic Achievement (3.80 to 3.99 on a 4.00 scale)
NJCAA Award for Exemplary Academic Achievement (3.60 to 3.79 on a 4.00 scale)

Genesee Earns Twenty Academic All-Region Selections

Twenty student athletes from Genesee Community College were named to the NJCAA Region III Academic All-Region List for the 2011-2012 seasons. Students honored on the NJCAA Academic All-Region List have maintained full-time enrollment and earned a grade point average of 3.5 (roughly equivalent to an A) or better.

The 16th seeded Lady Cougars went up against the overall number one seed in Cowley, a team that increased their win streak to 20 games with the win on Thursday.

Women's Volleyball Finishes 2nd

The Genesee Community College Women’s Volleyball team finished 2nd place in the 2011 Western New York Athletic Conference Tournament, losing only to Niagara County Community College in the finals on Saturday afternoon.

The Genesee Community College Women’s Volleyball team finished 2nd place in the 2011 Western New York Athletic Conference Tournament, losing only to Niagara County Community College in the finals on Saturday afternoon.

After a double bye to start the tournament, the Lady Cougars knocked off Erie Community College in four sets, 25-20, 15-25, 25-23, 25-22, in the semi finals and moved on to the championship.

The Genesee Community College women’s volleyball team has qualified for the NJCAA National Tournament after winning the District L Tournament this weekend in Randolph, New Jersey.

Genesee began the tournament playing the Community College of Rhode Island and defeated the Lady Knights in three sets, 25-14, 25-7, 25-18. In the opening round win, Carrie Blunt recorded 12 kills and Deliane Lessard added 7. Sabrina Wilhoite led the team with 17 assists while Paige Tilert tallied 39 digs.

Women's Volleyball Wins Division II Regional Title

The only two teams in Division II Region III volleyball squared off for the title on Tuesday night at Genesee Community College, with GCC and Mercyhurst North East meeting for the fourth time this season.

The only two teams in Division II Region III volleyball squared off for the title on Tuesday night at Genesee Community College, with GCC and Mercyhurst North East meeting for the fourth time this season. The Lady Cougars were 3-0 on the season against the Lady Saints and come away victorious once again Tuesday in three sets (25-15, 25-12, 25-17).

Genesee came from behind early in the first set thanks in part to strong serving from Deliane Lessard who served to six straight points. The Lady Cougars did not trail in the second and third sets.

Women's Volleyball has Strong Showing at Hagerstown Tournament

The Genesee Community College Women’s Volleyball team went 3-1 at the Hagerstown Community College volleyball tournament this weekend, losing only in their final match of the tournament to Rockville 22-25, 25-22, 21-25, 20-25.

Paige Tilert was named the tournament MVP. She ended the tournament with 84 digs, 17 aces and 9 kills. Named to the all-tournament team were Carrie Blunt and Sabrina Wilhoite. Blunt finished the weekend with 32 kills, 15 digs and 2 blocks. Wilhoite tallied 49 aces, 19 digs and 6 aces.

Women's Volleyball Defeats Mercyhurst North East

The Genesee Community College Women’s Volleyball team cruised to a three sets to none win over Mercyhurst North East on Thursday night, winning 25-16, 25-17, 25-19. Paige Tilert, who entered Thursday night’s match ranked second in all of Division II in digs per set, lead the team with 28 digs and also added 4 kills.

Maria Antsupova, who entered the match ranked 13th in Division II in digs per set, tallied 23 digs. Carrie Blunt lead the team in kills with 19 and Karin Davis chipped in with 16 assists.
