Volleyball out at Districts

The Genesee Community College volleyball team advanced to day two of the District L Tournament in the Bronx, NY, but lost to the Community College of Rhode Island in four sets on Sunday, ending their season.

The Lady Cougars won the first set 25-13, but then lost three straight (22-25, 17-25, 19-25).

Karin Davis had 21 digs for Genesee, Leyinska Quiles-Torres added 35 assists and eight digs, Alexandra Perez tallied nine kills and nine digs and Michelle Nagle added eight kills.


Volleyball splits on day 1 at Districts

The Genesee Community College volleyball team split on the opening day at the district tournament in the Bronx, NY on Saturday.

Genesee began the day by falling to Monroe College (Bronx, NY) three sets to none (23-25, 23-25, 25-27). In their second match, the Lady Cougars defeated Delaware Tech Community College three sets to none (25-8, 25-22, 25-15).

GCC will take on the Community College of Rhode Island tomorrow morning at 10am for the right to move on to face Monroe College for the district championship.

Women's Volleyball: Hagerstown CC Tournament Recap

The Genesee Community College women's volleyball team went 1-3 at the Hagerstown Community College tournament over the weekend.

The Lady Cougars began the tournament Saturday losing to the host team 20-25, 21-25, 22-25. In their second match, Genesee defeated Henry Ford Community College in three sets, 25-20, 25-23, 25-20.

On Sunday, GCC came up empty, falling to Pitt Community College in five sets, 19-25, 21-25, 25-23, 25-18, 11-15, and Jackson Community College in three sets, 18-25, 17-25, 17-25.

Lady Cougars down Mercyhurst North East

The Genesee Community College women’s volleyball team knocked off Mercyhurst North East on Thursday night, three sets to one to earn their third straight conference victory of the season.
The Lady Cougars extended an early 8-5 first set lead to 11-5 after Karin Davis served to three straight points. Mercyhurst fought back and cut it to four before Genesee pulled away again, winning the first set 25-17.
It was a back-and-forth second set before GCC made a four-point run to turn a 14-14 tie into an 18-14 lead. The Lady Cougars would win the second set 25-19.


Women's Volleyball downs Alfred State

The Genesee Community College women’s volleyball team notched a victory in their home opener on Tuesday night, defeating the visiting Pioneers from Alfred State College three sets to one.
The Lady Cougars were down early in the first set, trailing 13-8 before winning eight of eleven points to tie the set at 16. Both teams went back and forth and were tied at 20 a piece before Genesee took control and won the opening set 25-22.
GCC trailed early on again in the second set and were unable to dig out of the hole, losing 25-11 and tying the match at one set a piece.

The Genesee Community College women's volleyball team went 1-6 over the weekend at the Owens Community College Tournament.
